Macclesfield Bereavement Support Service - Volunteers
- The death of someone can be a life changing event for close for friends or relatives. Most people find their own path through bereavement with the support of others close to them. For some, however, the emotions they experience are disorienting.
- Bereavement Support volunteers aim to help in such situations, by coming alongside individuals and, using counselling skills, to give them space to find their own way of dealing with those emotions.
- Who are we? We are a group from many walks of life who have had much experience in dealing with loss. Most of us are qualified counsellors and are committed skilled listeners. We work remotely in clients’ homes or in rooms but are part of a supportive, friendly team which provides support, supervision and training. The time commitment varies, is controlled by you but on average is about two or three hours each week. Our essential group meetings are the first Wednesday morning each month.
- It can be a tough role offering an empathic relationship with clients. So, you need to be emotionally robust and able to handle your own losses.
- Is this for you? If you are 18 or over, are a qualified counsellor or similar, and have the necessary qualifications, experience and skills this could be a role for you. To find out more please get in touch for an informal chat. Leave a message for David Wood on 01625 439333.
